Indexed CV's use a Paging System to allow for the ability to program thousands of CV's. There are two index CV's used to select an indexed page, CV31 and CV32. CV31 controls the high byte of the index and CV32 controls the low byte. Once the indexed page has been selected then program the CV just like any other CV.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
An analogy for the paging system is to think of a clock, CV31 controls the hour, CV32 controls the minute, and then the actual CV is the &amp;quot;second&amp;quot;. &lt;br /&gt;

If you want to change the speed of the locomotive at speed step 1 you can program the Speed table in the indexed CV's (this table is more detailed than the &amp;quot;28 speed step User Loadable Speed table&amp;quot; as it gives access to the speed at every speed step 0-128).&lt;br /&gt;
The CV for Speed step 1 has two parts, indexed CV 16.2.258 and indexed CV 16.2.257 &amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
So set CV31=16, then set CV32=2, then you can read or write CV258 and CV257 just as you would any other CV. In this scenario CV258 is the coarse adjustment and will have a larger effect on the speed that CV257 which is the fine adjustment.&lt;br /&gt;

Listen for the whine of the traction motors as the prime mover spools up and the Charger takes off, as the locomotive gains speed the traction motors are drowned out as the noise from the gearbox hardware hums speedily as the Charger reaches 125MPH!&lt;br /&gt;

The Charger also features a fully functional emergency strobe light for more fun prototype operation.&lt;br /&gt;
Send your DCC system into emergency and the engine will immediately stop and turn on the red strobe. Additionally you can also “emergency brake” by hitting the train brake on full (5x) The train will come to a quick stop and turn on the strobe.&lt;br /&gt;
As a bonus the Emergency strobe light also works in conjunction with the “Crew Alert” Feature. Enable the crew alert feature and the Emergency strobe will come on when the crew alert timer expires. If no user input is received after a set amount of time the alarm will sound giving the user short amount of time to enter input or else the train will go into emergency, brake, and come to a stop with the red emergency strobe flashing!&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
Prototypical strobe operation!&lt;br /&gt;
Per section 1.4.12 of the Siemens manual the strobe lights will come automatically when certain conditions are met. The white strobes flash while the ditch lights are on (including when the ditch lights are flashing) and the headlights are switched to full illumination.&lt;br /&gt;
To simulate this TCS has implemented automatic and manual control modes of the white strobe lights, the factory default is automatic mode (CV182 bit 7 is set/on)&lt;br /&gt;
In automatic mode the white strobe lights will behave as described in the Siemens manual section 1.4.12 while the strobe button is activated on the throttle (default is F5) If Function 5 is turned on the strobe lights will turn on only if both the headlight and ditch lights are on.&lt;br /&gt;
If function 5 is turned off the strobe light will turned off no matter what the state is of the headlight and ditch lights.&lt;br /&gt;
In manual strobe control mode (CV182 bit 7 is cleared/off) the white strobe lights are only controlled by the throttle button and the headlight and ditch light status has no effect on the white strobes.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
The SC-44 charger is at its heart a WOWDiesel decoder but has had some customization to make it specific to the SC-44 Charger locomotive. The information below details where CV’s and operation differ from the standard Diesel decoder.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
DC mode operation&lt;br /&gt;
In DC mode the locomotive will sit still until a sufficient amount of track voltage is present, at which point it will start to move and will sound a directional horn blast and sound the bell.  A grade crossing horn quill can be sounded by “flicking” the throttle voltage up and back down quickly. The directional horn blasts, quill, and automatic DC mode bell are enabled by default and are controlled by the Automatic Sounds CV.&lt;br /&gt;
Additional Sound Features&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div&gt;The ''Crew Alert'' feature, or sometimes known as a ''Dead Mans Switch'' is a safety feature on modern locomotives. While a locomotive is moving the engineer must press a button or pedal every so often to ensure that the engineer has not fallen asleep, lost consciousness, died, or having a medical emergency. If the engineer fails to do so after a set amount of time an alarm and flashing light will activate. If the button is not pressed within a short window then the train goes into emergency stop.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
In the WOWSound decoder this is implemented by monitoring for speed changes or function presses. If the time has expired as set by the [[{{NAMESPACE}}:CV_121|Crew Alert Timer]] without a user input then an alarm will sound increasing in volume. After a short amount of time if no further input is received to turn off the alarm the train will enter emergency mode, putting on the brakes and stopping the train.&amp;lt;br&amp;gt;&lt;br /&gt;
Additionally a light output can be installed inside the cab, (TCS recommends setting the light to be a flashing light) and set to be the [[{{NAMESPACE}}:CV_122|Crew Alert Light Function]] so that a light will flash as the alarm sounds.&lt;br /&gt;
The light will continue to be active even after the train goes into emergency as a visual to show you why your train has come to a stop. Any speed change or function input will turn the crew alert light off.&lt;br /&gt;
